Group 1: Denmark at the top of the Group, Hungary and Iceland dominated Macedonia and Austria

Macedonia 25:31 Hungary (9:16)

In the first match of the Main Round, Hungary showed their superiority and defeated Macedonia with 25-31, and now has 3 points in Group 1. Macedonian players were impressed by the Hungarians, they missed a lot of clear shots, few penalties and their defense did not know how to stop Ancsin, Csaszar, and their team players. At the end of the first half, everything was clear about the winner Hungary was in a lead with 7 goals difference.

The second half was only a formality, Hungary finished this match routinely and now they are in good position for top placement.

Austria 27:33 Iceland (9:17)

In the second game of Group 1, Iceland crushed Austria’s hopes for better placement on this EURO 2014. They defeated Austria with six goals, and left them without any points in the Main Round.

Everything was over in 15th minute when Iceland with a goal from Sigurdsson increase the score to 10-4. At that point, Austria gave up and let Iceland to increase the advantage to eight goal on half time.

The second half was routine for both teams, Austria wanted this match to end faster, and Iceland was happy to hold their advantage unopposed. In the end 27-33 for first two points for Iceland in the Main Round.

Denmark 31:28 Spain (16:14)

Denmark accompanied by 14,000 spectators in Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning, took over the first place in Group 1 from Spain, in the duel of two undefeated team of Group 1. From the beginning of this match, the hosts took matters in their own hands.

Spain started with their usual aggressive defence in several different formations, but from the beginning of the match this defence was not as efficient as it used to be in the first matches at the competition. Denmark’s fast attacking play was a constant challenge, and Jose Manuel Sierra in the Spanish goal did not have as much success as usual.

Spa-Den

Spain tried their best but Landin was great on Denmark’s goal, and Hansen stood up for his “super-star ” status, on the other side Sierra and Perez de Vargas did not had their day with only 7 saves in total. Denmark need one more victory to secure the semi-final position in Group 1. The World Champion will have their chances against Austria and Macedonia.
