Poland 31:30 Belarus (14:13)

Unlike the first day of the Main Round,  Poland, in a very exciting game, defeated Belarus and took their first points in this round of the tournament. Belarus were only seconds away from recording their first victory in the EHF EURO 2014 Main Round, but they gave away a four-goal lead and conceded two goals in the last minute to eventually lose their main round encounter against Poland 30:31.

Both team played on eye level, with no more than two goals difference, until half way through the second half when Belarus increased their lead, as Rutenka’s seventh goal concluded a great Belarusian 4:0 series that gave them a 24:20 lead. They also had this lead five minutes from the end but they could not finish what they started. Mariusz Jurkiewicz became Poland’s ‘Man of the Match’ as he scored the decisive goal for 31:30.

Sweden 29:27 Russia (20:13)

Sweden started motivated and encouraged by their good performance in their last round and they succeeded, gabbing two points from Russia. They finished their job in the first half when they went on the half time break with seven goals difference. The second half was just formality but Russia showed that they were not the team that was defeated in the first half, they used the great advantage Sweden had on the break and using their inadvertence they managed to close the gap. In the end it was not enough, Sweden won with 29-27.

Croatia 25:27 France (17:18)

The duel of the titans finished with a defeat of the Balkans team. Croatia opened the match beautifully, they were in a constant lead but in the end with a series of mistakes and Thierry Omeyer on the goal, France got close to just one goal difference on the break.

In the second half, two different teams started the match. France was more concentrated and finished their attacks successfully, and Croatia struggled with their game in attack, Kopljar who had 7/7 in the first half could not score, Bicanic and Sliskovic were weak on the left back side and the score turned around. This time France was in a lead, and they managed to keep it until the end thanks to Karabatic and a help from the bench, Porte. France now is in the lead ahead of Croatia and they need only one more victory to take a spot in the semi finals. Croatia on the other hand in the worst case could not take place in the semi-finals, even if they win the rest of their matches.
