After uncertain game in the second round against Norway, Spain showed why they are World Champions. They will advance in the Main Round as a winner of Group B, after they won against Iceland in the last round of Preliminary stage. In the first 20 minutes, Spain controlled the game, they had the lead and were confident in defense. But theIcelandic team did not give up, Björgvin Gustavsson saved nine shots including two penalties. Additionally they could count on another brilliant performance of Aron
Palmarsson, who scored six of his in total nine goals before the break. In 25 minute Iceland had three goals advantage 12-15. Then Spain woke up and with fantastic 4-0 series gained 16-15 advantage on the half time.
The second half was a repetition of the first, Spain had the lead for seven minutes. Iceland took over the match, and controlled it until 43rd minute. Thanks to their improved defense, goalkeeper Jose Manuel Sierra and the bigger number of rotating options they re-took the control, scoring six unanswered goals in only six minutes for the 25:22
Hungary 26:26 Norway
The last of three spots of Group B in Aalborg was confirmed only in the final seconds of the last match of the preliminary round. Norway will leave this Euro, after a tie with Hungary in their last match of the Preliminary round.
Even though Hungary had three goals at the end of the first half, Norway managed to equalize and even had few chances to get into the lead. But Norway was unsuccessful and in the end Hungary celebrated the tie 26-26. Thanks to this draw in a highly thrilling match, the Hungarians finished third ranked below Spain and Iceland with 2 points – and made it to the main round without winning a group match after the defeat against Spain and the tie with Iceland before.
