Just hours away from the first ever EHF Women’s Final Four, the atmosphere between fans is getting warmer. Unfortunately the weather here in Budapest is not as hot as the expectations from all four teams. Gyor is the defending champion, had a superior season in EHF Women’s Champions League and is on a good way to repeat their biggest success in the same arena where they rose the trophy last year.
“I wouldn’t like to talk about the percentage of the chance of it. The new system is new for everyone, it all depends on the current form, so everyone could win now.”
“The circumstances are more comfortable for us, because we didn’t have to travel far for the FINAL4. We have some pressure on us, but not far more different than in the last year, because we could win the cup finally. The tournament will be harder because we will have only 60 minutes, but the crowd will help us to get through. We only focus on the semifinal. There are three Hungarian teams in all three big European final tournaments, and it is a really big thing for us, because the world can see how strong the Hungarian handball is.”
One year later and Gyor walk comfortably for another trophy, this year with more confidence as Eduarda Amorim said:
“Fans will stand behind the team, it is quite nice to have this atmosphere at home. I don’t feel bigger pressure on me, because my job is to play in 20×40 meters box and I think the crowd will help us. Of course we want a victory at the end; me and my teammates give 100% on the court. Playing against FC Midtjylland will be a challenge, because they are really fast, but we are well prepared. First of all we focus on the semifinal, and after that we will watch the other two teams in action.”
FC Midtjylland has their debut in the EHF Champions League finals, their predecessor Ikast was very successful in their Champions league history but they never won the title. In their quest to conquer Europe for the first time stands one big obstacle, the team of Gyor. On their chances in the first semi-final Line Jörgensen, the right back of FC Midtjylland gave short statement.
“We are playing against Győr and they are not just the holders of the title, they are the probable winners of this one, too. But it takes the weights off from our shoulders, we can play as we want to, there is nothing to lose.”
“Of course it was the best experience for everybody of the team to be qualified for MVM EHF FINAL4. It was a huge surprise and I guess nobody expected us to beat Thüringer HC and reach so far.“
“Physically it was the hardest match against Buducnost in the main round, when we played in Ikast. We only won with one goal (25:24), we had to fight every second, it was one of these goals you can say there is a reason for being here in Budapest. I know, as a team we can beat everyone.“
