Round 20: Kiel on the right track

In the final Bundesliga round this year, Kiel celebrated victory over Hamburg, with the final result 24-35. Since the beginning of the match Kiel forced their dominance and did not let any new surprises in the Bundesliga.
Before a sold-out crowd in the Savings Bank Arena, Hamburg from the beginning had difficulties in their game. The weak selection on the offensive was complicated by Kiel’s 6-0 cover. After HSV managed to keep the game open for 15 minutes , THW took on the pace and took the lead comfortably. In the second half, HSV had to overcome  Johan Sjöstrand and the great defense of Kiel  thus did not approach home team’s lead again. Best scorer for Hamburg was Joan Cañellas with six goals. In Kiel, Marko Vujin reached  ten successful goals .
In the third minute Adrian Pfahl scored the first goal of the game. But that was the only lead of HSV in this match. After four minutes the hosts were in a lead with 4-2 when an unscheduled interruption occurred. A viewer, collapsed and had to be intervened and after ten minutes the game continued. Hamburg had difficulties against the 6-0 coverage of THW. After Hans Lindberg had shortened by seven meters to 8:6 ( 13′ ), Kiel was able to pull away to 12:7. While the team of Martin Schwalb got stuck again and again to Johan Sjöstrand , the goalkeepers of HSV Johannes Bitter, Marcus Cleverly were not at that level. After HSV reduced to 16:11 , a 19:12 difference could not be prevented in the last three minutes of the first half.

The second half started, as the first had ended for HSV. Two goals from Christian Sprenger made ​​for a nine- goal deficit . The first two digits difference was discarded after a seven meter by Hans Lindberg ( 12:22 , 36′ ) . Hamburg tried to revive their attack with new variants, they succeeded for a short while, after a goal by Andreas Nilsson and a  Joan Cañellas at 16:25 (45′) . Kiel held the HSV at a distance and had great goalkeeper in Sjöstrand, who was difficult to overcome. Hamburg could not stop in the final minutes the momentum THW gained again . With the bitter 24:35 defeat on Boxing Day , HSV conceded their fourth defeat of the season and THW remained on the top of the Table in Bundesliga after 20 rounds.
